Understanding your presa canario puppies body language

presa canario dog

Presa canario puppies unlike human beings do not communicate through speech. But that doesn’t not mean they don’t communicate at all. They just have a different way of communicating-using body language and cues. It takes a trained eye to clearly understand what the presa puppies are saying through their actions. Most people misread these cues and misunderstand their puppies. Some of the presa canario puppies’ behavior and their meaning are discussed below.

The position of the tail sometimes tells a lot about the presa puppy especially when he or she is around strangers or other puppies. If his tail is up, it shows that he or she is proud and confident around the pack. It might indicate that he or she is the dominant kind. If he or she has his or her tail between his or her legs it means he or she is scared around these people or other puppies. It might indicate that he or she is the submissive kind in the pack. If your dog is the dominant kind but still puts his tail between his or her legs when you call him or her over may indicate submission to your authority as the owner.

Some signs like the presa puppy rolling over and exposing his or her underside and lowering his head down below the head of another puppy on first encounter indicate submission. Understanding this cue is important in learning how to train a presa canario puppy in obedience.

There are several cues that may indicate your presa puppy is happy. These include tail wagging or thumping on the floor, playful bowing while wagging the tail, placing one paw tucked under the body in a lying position and sitting or lying in a relaxed manner.

Other important signs are those that indicate your presa canario puppy may be irritated and may try to cause harm to you or to those around. Sudden freezing of the puppy, spreading his limbs with his head below the body level while looking straight at you and furiously showing his teeth and sometimes trembling feet may indicate imminent trouble. If your puppy behaves this way cease everything you were doing and move away slowly. If you were trying to snatch away something from him or her let him or her have it. You would rather let him have it rather than risk you or your kids being bitten. if he behaves this way identify the trigger and eliminate it but if he continues to show this kind of aggression avoid him coming into direct contact with kids until his obedience training is done.

Avoidance behaviors are also common in presa canario puppies. Sometimes the puppy may hide behind a person or a structure or just suddenly leaves or turns his head away. His or her tail may also show he is disinterested in whatever is going on around. For instance when it’s between the legs and wagging or when only the tip is wagging. It is good for your presa canario puppy to have a place it can retreat to when he feels like.
